Google Ads or SEO: Where to Start on a Small Budget
We get asked this a lot, and the honest answer is: it depends on how fast you need customers and how long you can wait. Both channels live in the same Google search results, but they work in completely different ways.
The short version
Google Ads is a tap. Turn it on and the water runs straight away. Turn it off and it stops. You pay for every click.
SEO is a garden. For the first months it feels like nothing is happening, but what grows, stays. You don’t pay per click, you invest time and work in the site itself.
When to start with Google Ads
- Your business is new and you need customers this month, not in six months.
- You have a seasonal offer or a promotion with a deadline.
- You want to test quickly which service actually sells.
- In your industry people search and buy right away, think emergency services or repairs.
One important thing: an ad should lead to a page that answers exactly what the person searched for. If an ad about window repairs sends people to a homepage listing every service you offer, a lot of that money is wasted.
When to start with SEO
- People search for your service regularly, all year round.
- Clicks in your industry are expensive and ads get heavy over time.
- You can wait a few months before you see results.
- Your customers compare and read a lot before they buy.
SEO isn’t a one-off job. It’s technical housekeeping, separate pages for your services, answers to customer questions and trust from other sites. Rankings usually start to move after several weeks or months, depending on competition. If someone promises you first place by a specific date, be careful.

Why both together often works best
Google Ads gives you something SEO can’t: data within a few weeks. The ads report shows the exact words people type before they call you. Those are the words worth building pages and content around. So the ads bring customers today and show you where to invest next.
Once SEO starts bringing visitors, you can cut ad spend on the searches where you already rank for free.
What it costs
Google Ads has two cost parts: the click budget you pay to Google, and campaign management. Our Google Ads management starts at 450 EUR per month, and all packages are on our prices page. SEO pricing depends on the state of your site, the competition and the scope of work, which we explain on the SEO services page.
The most common mistakes
- Ads send people to the homepage instead of the specific service.
- Calls and enquiries aren’t tracked, so nobody knows what works.
- Irrelevant search terms aren’t excluded, and the budget goes to searches that never buy.
- SEO gets dropped after a month because “nothing is happening”.

What we’d suggest on a small budget
Start Google Ads on one or two services that bring the most profit, and set up enquiry tracking from day one. At the same time, fix the basics on your site: a separate page per service, a clear price or pricing logic, and a site that’s easy to use on a phone. After 2 to 3 months you’ll have real data to decide where the money goes next.
